ARE YOU GETTING ENOUGH PROTEIN? For years I was unknowingly sabotaging my progress by missing this step! I wasn't getting enough protein. Here's what I learned... 1. A minimum daily dose of protein is needed to provide fuel for new muscle tissue. On average between .5-1 gram of protein is needed per pound of GOAL weight (not current weight.) 2. Protein requirements are higher when in a caloric deficit (when fat loss is the goal) than it is when trying to add muscle. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE MUSCLES TO TRAIN? For as long as I can remember, my favorite muscle group has been legs BUT... I've learned the importance of training the body as a whole. Here's why... 1. Training Frequency Matters - If you're training properly, you're creating some serious breakdown for the muscles you're working. You can't train super sore muscles, at least not to your benefit. At the very least muscles should get 2 days break but a lot of the time I need 4-5 to feel like I can hit them again. If fat loss is the goal, training more than 1-2X per week is important. 2. Imbalances & Injury - The body works as a whole and should be trained as such. Over and under developments in certain parts of the body eventually leads to injury. This isn't good. 3. You Look Better - In my humble opinion, a balanced body just looks better. ARE YOU PUSHING YOURSELF HARD ENOUGH? No matter what your current fitness level, there's a concept you've gotta apply to each and every workout if you want to change your body for good. SUBJECTIVE INTENSITY. This means that each and every rep, set, workout leaves you feeling like you pushed yourself outside of your comfort zone. If you're cruising through workouts, your body has already been there and has no reason to change. New stress on the body forces the body to adapt to the new load and eventually changes shape to fit. You don't need to do what the guy or girl next to you who've been training for 10 years are doing but you've got to get a little uncomfortable every workout. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable and enjoy the change (mental & physical) P.S.
